简介：1869年四川宝兴，法国神父戴维成为邓池沟教堂的第四代神父，传教之余，戴维热衷进山收集各种动植物标本，一次做客让戴维在李家庄庄主的家里发现了一种从未见过的动物皮毛，经过庄主女儿李婉君的重重刁难，戴维终于买下这种“黑白熊”的皮毛寄回巴黎，引起了轰动，巴黎生物协会经过研究将之命名为“大熊猫”。为了进一步研究大熊猫，戴维决定雇佣当地猎人捕捉一只活的大熊猫，过程中遇上了心怀不轨的动物学家皮特和动物杀手约翰和杰克，皮特三人设法取得了戴维的信任，加入了戴维一起寻找活的大熊猫。一番周折后众人终于抓住了活的大熊猫，皮特三人暗地里偷走熊猫却意外让熊猫逃回山林，只得重新上山捕捉，熊猫从老虎的口中救下了约翰一命。皮特和杰克背着约翰偷走熊猫，而戴维无意中在教堂中听见约翰的忏悔，急忙赶去阻止，却最终迟了一步。
