简介：麦德莉很小的时候父母和弟弟托马斯在外出途中遭遇车祸身亡，从此她和古板刻薄的姨妈一起生活。这本是童年一段痛苦的回忆，但如今已年近三十的麦德莉，眼前却频繁地出现托马斯的身影，令她经常从睡梦中惊醒，甚至开始出现幻觉。麦德莉深信托马斯有事情来找她，于是她在丈夫马迪的陪伴下回到乡下曾经住过的老房子，希望找到答案。途中汽车陷在泥潭中无法动弹，马迪把麦德莉一个人留在车中，自己外出寻求援助。麦德莉的车被当地人拖出，但马迪还没有回来，于是麦德莉开车寻找。她来到哈瑞斯的家，这个古怪冷漠的男人让麦德莉感觉危险就在身边。麦德莉在浴室发现一件和丈夫一样的衬衫沾满血迹，哈瑞斯对此又不能给予合理解释，一切笼罩在恐怖的气氛中。麦德莉手持利器将哈瑞斯打伤，就在她精神恍惚之际，麦德莉失手扎死了黑暗中突然出现在她身后的马迪。一切在警官的分析中真相大白：马迪为了继承麦德莉姨妈留下的巨额遗产，在麦德莉的饮食中下药，使她产生幻觉。这样就可以顺理成章地将她送到精神病院，自己成为麦德莉的监护人继承遗产。而哈瑞斯因为怕麦德莉检举他在保护区狩猎，才不肯向她多做解释，致使麦德莉认为他才是危险人物。麦德莉终于弄清了事实真相，精神也逐渐恢复正常。精彩视点：本片是一部恐怖悬疑电影，但片中并没有人们想像中恐怖电影惯用的尖叫、怪异的造型，更多的是一种由环境烘托而带给观众的心理恐惧——没有尽头的树林、被风吹落的松塔、甚至奔跑在前方可爱的金发男孩，都会被导演在影片中用做制造恐怖气氛的工具。
